Hillary Clinton has frequently been featured in the media and popular culture
from a wide spectrum of perspectives. Hillary Clinton won her first election in
2000 after years in the spotlight as the nation's first lady. Hillary Clinton
ordered her husband to keep his mouth shut and stop making excuses, which
compounded her false claim that she landed "under sniper fire" on a goodwill
trip to Bosnia as First Lady.
Clinton
Clinton would later write that she had not been careful in her choice of words
and that "the fallout from my reference to Tammy Wynette was instant - as it
deserved to be - and brutal. Clinton subsequently offered up some cookie recipes
as a way of making amends, and would later write of her chagrin: "Besides, I've
done quite a lot of cookie baking in my life, and tea-pouring too.
Campaign
"This campaign is about people, about making a difference in your lives. In a
new campaign ad, Hillary's mother, Dorothy Rodham, talks about why her daughter
should be the next president of the United States. In a new campaign ad, Hillary
talks about how America needs a new beginning -- on health care, education, and
Iraq. During the 1992 presidential campaign, Hillary Rodham Clinton observed,
"Our lives are a mixture of different roles.
Election
That election marked the first time an American First Lady ran for public
office; Clinton is also the first female senator to represent New York. On a
visit to Iraq in February 2005, Clinton noted that the insurgency had failed to
disrupt the democratic elections held earlier, and that parts of the country
were functioning well. She has a national network of supporters, the capacity to
raise as much or more money than any of her rivals, and a resume of political
activity dating back decades that now includes six years in the Senate and a
landslide reelection victory in November.
